Charley Hull's heroics bring Team Europe to Solheim Cup glory

Hull holed the winning putt as Team Europe staged a dramatic comeback to retain the Solheim Cup on home soil at Gleneagles.

The Englishwoman's birdie on the 18th green sealed a 15-13 victory over Team USA, who had led for much of the three-day contest in Perthshire.

Hull, who had earlier won three points from a possible four in the foursomes and fourballs, birdied the 17th to take the match into a sudden-death play-off.

And she held her nerve to roll in a birdie putt from 10 feet on the 18th, sparking jubilant celebrations among the home fans.

Team Europe had trailed 9-7 going into the final day's singles matches, but they fought back superbly to win the day 8-4.

Hull was the star of the show, but she was ably supported by the likes of Georgia Hall, Celine Boutier and Anna Nordqvist.

Hall won her singles match against Megan Khang 4&3, while Boutier beat Ally Ewing 3&2 and Nordqvist defeated Nelly Korda 2&1.

Suzann Pettersen, who was playing in her final Solheim Cup, also contributed a point with a 1-up victory over Lexi Thompson.

The victory was a sweet one for Team Europe, who had lost the last two Solheim Cups to Team USA.

It was also a special moment for Hull, who became the first English player to score the winning point in the Solheim Cup since Laura Davies in 2003.
