A man has died in a house fire in Carlisle.

The fire service was called to the property on Warwick Road at around 10pm on Thursday night.

Firefighters found the man inside the house and brought him outside, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but an investigation is underway.

In other news, thieves have stolen £1m of jewellery in a heist in Northumberland.

The burglars broke into a jewellers in Alnwick on Wednesday night and stole a number of high-value items, including watches and rings.

The police are appealing for witnesses to the burglary, which happened at around 11pm.

Cumbria police have issued a warning over online scams.

The police have received a number of reports of people being targeted by scammers who are posing as police officers or other officials.

The scammers are sending emails or text messages to people, claiming that they owe money or that their bank account has been compromised.

The police are urging people to be vigilant and to never give out their personal or financial information over the phone or email.
